Un copil din trei în România este expus riscului de sărăcie în 2024

În 2024, peste 1,255 milioane de copii români, adică o treime, se află în situația de risc de sărăcie sau excluziune socială, depășind media europeană de 24,2%. România ocupă astfel locul trei în Uniunea Europeană, după Bulgaria și Spania, la acest indicator îngrijorător.

Adulții care au experimentat sărăcia în copilărie înregistrează șanse mai mici de angajare, câștiguri cu circa 20% mai mici și o stare de sănătate afectată care reduce speranța de viață anuală cu aproximativ două săptămâni. De asemenea, copiii din mediul rural și cei ai căror părinți au un nivel scăzut de educație sunt cei mai vulnerabili.

Conform unui studiu realizat de Salvați Copiii România, aproape 60% dintre familiile sprijinite în educație nu pot acoperi costurile aferente fără sprijin extern, iar acest procent crește la 87% în rândul celor cu venituri precare. Alba24.ro citează date care indică faptul că nivelul ridicat al sărăciei copiilor români este legat de subfinanțările în protecție socială, sănătate și educație.

Raportul „Sărăcia copilului: Costul pe care Europa nu și-l poate permite” relevant la nivel european arată că sărăcia copiilor nu este inevitabilă, ci consecința deciziilor politice. UE trebuie să prioritizeze investițiile sociale și să includă în mod ferm copiii vulnerabili pentru a evita perpetuarea exclusiunii pe termen lung.
